Athina Rehse was born in Hamburg in 1991 . At the age of five she received her first violin lessons in Kyoto, Japan . The family moved to Canada, where Athina Rehse began studying at the age of nine with Prof. Jean Angers at the Conservatoire de Musique et d’Art Dramatique du Québec.

After Canada again followed Japan. At the age of fifteen, Athina traveled from Japan to Germany alone to begin her training under the direction of Prof. Wolfgang Marschner at the Pflüger Foundation Freiburg.

Five years of violin lessons occurred at the Violin Institute of the “Starnberger Musiktage” in Munich with Prof. Rudens Turku. Athina Rehse completed her Bachelor of Music (2013-2018) at the Hochschule für Musik Mainz with her thesis on “The clinical picture of tendonitis for violinists and methods to avoid it”.

Since 2017 Athina has been studying with Prof. Ervis Gega in the Soloist Program of the Talent Music Master Courses Academy of Brescia in Verona, Italy.

She received additional influences from master courses with Prof. Stephan Hempel, Prof. Lena Neudauer, Prof. Helmut Zehetmair, Prof. Sophia Jaffé, Prof. Christoph Schikedanz, Prof. Christian Sikorski, Prof. Ida Bieler and Prof. Mintcho Mintchev.

In 2018, as a solo violinist, she shot the “ Window Waltz ” commercial for the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg. With this spot , the agency was awarded the “Independent Agency of the Year” prize at the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival awards.

In the same year she won a permanent position as a first tutti violin at the Classical Philharmonic of Bonn and subsequently received the cultural award from the Rotary Club Mainz-Churmeyntz.

In 2018 was also the start of two Master of Music programs. She studies violin at the Hochschule für Musik Mainz; and violin and applied music psychology at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster.

In addition to her solo appearances as a violinist, dancer and choreographer, Athina also played with the Münster Symphony Orchestra; and with the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra as ambassador for AI music at the WCIT International Congress as a representative for Greece. She is still active with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra as a Substitute Violin.

Athina is a teacher with extensive experience since the beginning of her bachelor’s degree. Since 2014 she has been working as a violin teacher at the Free Waldorf School in Darmstadt and since 2017 also at the music school at the Kulturforum Hattersheim e.V., where she teaches piano and violin. Athina Rehse sees a focus of her teaching as the involvement of the whole body in connection with making music.
