Athina Rehse was born in Hamburg in 1991. At the age of five she received her first violin lessons in Kyoto, Japan. The family moved to Canada, where Athina Rehse began studying at the age of nine with Prof. Jean Angers at the Conservatoire de Musique et d’Art Dramatique du Québec.
After another stay of several years in Japan, Athina traveled alone from Japan to Germany at the age of fifteen to continue her training under the direction of Prof. Wolfgang Marschner at the Pflüger Foundation Freiburg.
Five years of violin lessons followed at the Violin Institute of the “Starnberger Musiktage” in Munich with Prof. Rudens Turku. Athina Rehse completed her Bachelor of Music (2013-2018) at the Hochschule für Musik Mainz with her thesis on “The Clinical Picture of Tendonitis for Violinists and Methods to Avoid It”.
Since 2017 Athina has been studying with Prof. Ervis Gega in the Soloist Program of the Talent Music Master Courses Academy of Brescia in Verona, Italy.
She received additional influences from master courses with Prof. Stephan Hempel, Prof. Lena Neudauer, Prof. Helmut Zehetmair, Prof. Sophia Jaffé, Prof. Christoph Schikedanz, Prof. Christian Sikorski, Prof. Ida Bieler and Prof. Mintcho Mintchev.
In 2018, she was the solo violinist in the “ Window Waltz ” commercial for the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg. With this spot, the agency was awarded with the “Independent Agency of the Year” prize at the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival awards.
In the same year she won a permanent position as a first tutti violin at the Classical Philharmonic of Bonn and subsequently received the cultural award from the Rotary Club Mainz-Churmeyntz.
Also in 2018 was the start of two Master in Music programs. She studies violin at the Hochschule für Musik Mainz, and violin and applied music psychology at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster.
In addition to her solo appearances as a violinist, dancer and choreographer, Athina also played with the Münster Symphony Orchestra, and with the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra as ambassador for AI music, representing Greece, at the WCIT International Congress. She is active as Substitute Violin with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philharmonie Luxemburg, the Orfeo Orchestra (Belgium) and the Kurpfälzische Chamber Orchestra.
In 2024 she won a permanent position as first tutti violin with the Neue Philharmonie Hamburg and its chamber orchestra.
In August of the same year, she played the open-air concerts at the Munich Trade Fair Grounds with pop star ADELE as first violin. In the same month she rounded off her certificate study year with a final concert performing the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto and works composed for her personally by Epaminondas Chiriacopol. She completed this with “excellent grades”.
Athina is a violin teacher with extensive experience since the beginning of her bachelor’s degree. She has been working at the Freie Waldorfschule Darmstadt since 2014 and at the music school of the Culture center Hattersheim e.V. since 2017. Since 2022, Athina has been commissioned as Concertmaster & String Section Instructor in cooperation with the Showbühne Mainz e.V. to prepare young musicians for a musical project every year and to take them on stage with her. Athina Rehse sees a focus of her teaching as the movement of the whole body in connection with making music.
